After a career break, Morgan Stanley welcomes returnees

However, these inactive professionals can be an important reserve in a tight labor market environment like the current one. Morgan Stanley’s Budapest office has announced it for the ninth time Return to Work – Get back to work! program, which helps those who interrupt their careers for any reason to bounce back. You can apply for the 16-week training until the end of October.

After several years away, giving a presentation in English or even writing an email can often be a challenge for those returning to the world of work. During the missed time, practical knowledge may also wear out, but one of the main problems in most cases is the loss of self-confidence.

Nevertheless, such “starters” are not a problem, but a solution and an opportunity, or so Morgan Stanley thinks.

“In recent years, we have found excellent colleagues among professionals who interrupted their careers and then started again. Moreover, in the current tight labor market, employees who are not currently active but would like to return to work with a little support can be an important reserve.”

he told me Balázs Fremda, a Head of HR at Morgan Stanley’s Budapest office.

You have to pick up the pace again in 16 weeks

The global bank’s IT and analysis center in Budapest, which employs around 3,000 people, also launched a special program to find these talents and help them reintegrate into the labor market. Morgan Stanley first launched in London and the United States Return to Work – Get back to work! program, you can apply for it at the Budapest office since 2016, and hundreds of people have already restarted their careers this way.

During the four-month training, the participants refresh their professional knowledge, improve their language skills, learn time management and communication techniques, and can improve their presentation and communication skills with the help of mentors. They can also meet former participants and company managers, work with the best and most talented professionals, and participate in volunteer work. The success of the program is shown by the fact that a large percentage of the participants are employed by Morgan Stanley in Budapest after completing the training.

“During the missed years, our knowledge may wear out and we may fall out of the professional circulation, however, with the right support, even in a short time, returning colleagues can regain self-confidence and become valuable colleagues. Moreover, during the missed years, they often gain knowledge and experience that they can use in their work. For example, the multitasking ability of workers caring for small children or elderly family members is a value they may not have been aware of before the program.”

Balázs Fremda added.

A solution after having children or in the event of a career change

Although anyone can apply for the program, not only returning parents, there are many people who would like to re-enter the labor market after having children. Such Tímea Turk, who is a mother of two children and returned to work in the risk management department of Morgan Stanley after a seven-year absence. He revealed: Return to Work was also an excellent opportunity to regain the self-confidence worn down during the years spent at home.

“The program helped me regain my confidence in my professional life – share your experiences. – I also appreciate the flexible work opportunities offered by the company, which help to create a healthy work-life balance.”

There can be many reasons for a career break, but nowadays it is becoming more and more common to “redesign”, that is, to train and try yourself in a new field, to build a career in a new industry. Originally active in the financial field Bence Borsós for example, he switched to IT, and after a master’s degree abroad and a programming training, the program gave him the opportunity to get a job as a software developer.

“In addition to professional knowledge, the program also emphasized the development of skills such as communication or personal branding, which were important to me”

– said the specialist who works on the development of securities trading IT systems.
