Pedestrians thronged the college premises with eagerness to see. Local BNP leaders and activists have demanded that the culprits be brought under punishment.
Discussion and criticism across the area regarding the display incident. The incident took place at Jeevannagar Government Women’s College in Chuadanga on Saturday (January 11). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jibannagar police station Mamun Hossain Biswas visited the spot after receiving the information.
Earlier on the evening of January 2, the words ‘Awami League will return in a terrible form’ appeared on the display board of Andulbaria Girls Government Primary School of the upazila.
Locals said that the law and order forces calmed them down when the tension broke out after the digital signboard display read ‘Chhatra League will return in a terrible form, Jai Bangla Jai Banga Bandhu’. Later, the college authorities disconnected the power supply to the display.
Rezaul Islam, Principal of Jeevannagar Govt Adarsh Mahila College said, ‘I went to the college as soon as I heard about the incident. At this time, the text about Chhatra League appeared on the digital signboard. It is really a shameful and sad incident.’
The principal also said, ‘We have no control over the writing on this digital signboard. Especially since the contractor has installed this display board, the name of the college can be seen written here automatically. We have nothing but electricity connection.’ Informing about the formation of the inquiry committee, he said that the college authorities will always be vigilant to prevent the repetition of such shameful incidents in the future.
Kamrul Islam, member secretary of Jeevannagar Upazila Juba Dal, said, ‘It is really sad that such writings of the banned and terrorist organization Chhatra League appeared on the digital signboard of Jeevannagar Govt. Adarsh Mahila College. We strongly condemn and protest against it. At the same time, I demand from the administration that the culprits should be brought under the law and punished.
When asked about this, Jibannagar Police Station OC Mamun Hossain Biswas said that they will look into the incident and take legal action after investigation.
Jibannagar upazila executive officer Mohammad Al Amin said that the digital signboard has been disconnected. Actions will be taken to reveal the main mystery through the investigation committee.
