After Newey, Courtenay goes to McLaren. Russell triggers feud between Horner and Wolff

The exodus from Red Bull continues, which this season (and the next) continues to lose pieces: after the farewell of Wheatley and Adrian Newey, Will Courtenay also leaves. While George Russell becomes a current name

A winning team, to the point of being dominant, but at Red Bull something seems to have changed over the last few months. Max Verstappen is approaching his fourth World Drivers’ title with the team Milton Keys which however finds itself chasing in the constructors’ standings with the McLaren who is looking for a feat that is difficult to predict at the beginning of the season. In the perfect machine something seems to have jammed and from Red Bull a long exodus has begun.

Will Courtenay Close to Quitting

The last to say goodbye (in chronological order) is Will Courtenay who is ready to start a new car with rival McLaren. The strategy manager says goodbye after 20 years and it was the same McLaren to announce his arrival: “Will’s experience will add further depth to the team’s racing operations and help drive performance within the racing teams.”. To welcome the arrival of Will Courtenay, also the team principal Andrea Stella: “Will’s experience, professionalism and passion for motorsports make him the ideal candidate to lead our sports function. We are entering a key phase of our journey as a team and are confident he will be a great addition.”.

Red Bull: After Wheatley and Newey, Another Farewell

According to what was revealed by the BBC, the passage of Courtenay alla McLaren could however materialize only in mid-2026 when his contract with Red Bull expires. In the meantime, the process of refoundation continues for Red Bull which over the last five months has seen the farewells of Jonathan Wheatley (to Audi in 2026) and the much discussed one of New (who chose Aston Martin after the long courtship of Ferrari).

Russell: The Stone of Discord Between Horner and Wolff

The Red Bull decided just a few months ago to renew Sergio Perez’s contract also next season but the Mexican driver’s position seems anything but solid. And not because of the ever-present market rumours that are circulating in the paddock but because of what was revealed by the team’s top brass. In fact, Chris Horner cast a not so veiled glance at George Russell: “We are not afraid to leave our group. Russell has a contract that expires at the end of next year and it would be foolish not to take that into account. There are other riders, talented riders, who will also have contracts expiring”.

The response from the front was not long in coming Mercedes entrusted to Toto Wolff: “Christian Horner always seems ready to stir up trouble but the reality is clear: Russell is, has always been and hopefully will remain a Mercedes driver for a long time. He has signed a multi-year contract with us and we are extremely satisfied with the contribution he is making to the team.”.
