On January 6, he opened the first, so-called One Magyarország, belonging to the 4iG Group, has its “reference store” in the Westend shopping center in Budapest. According to the company’s management, the gradual transformation of the store network and brand elements is not limited to a one-time rebranding, in the background there is an extremely complicated technical-technological transition process, which started approximately one and a half years ago and has not yet completely ended with the introduction of the new brand.
The One brand officially replaced the Vodafone and Digi brands in Hungary on January 1, following a partial stoppage of less than two days, mainly affecting the customer service channels. The service provider also promised new residential and small business tariffs in time for the brand change, which mainly involved minor or major changes in the landline portfolio.
The telecommunications company thus offers the biggest novelties in terms of television and combined TV packages supplemented with wired internet service. In the new range, customers can choose from 2 basic television packages that are most ideal for them, but for the sake of personalization, they can also choose from different versions of the packages that have been expanded with streaming content.
2025: how much money is the home office worth to you?
Here are our 2025 forecasts for the IT labor market.
An integral part of the new TV portfolio is OneTV, launched in September last year, which, in addition to linear content, offers applications available from the media box, built-in streaming content, and the OneTV mobile application service. The TV Family package, which includes 114 linear channels and is available for HUF 8,490 per month, also has a program playback function (catch-up TV), thanks to which customers can play back the selected program for 7 days, in addition, subscribers can record and store programs for up to 90 days for a separate fee without.
The new offers mainly offer serious innovations to those living in the former Digi service areas, because until now only a “wooden” linear TV package was available to them, which did not include, among other things, the possibility of recording programs or catch-up TV, and although a mobile application was available for it, it it has not been substantially developed for many years.
Customers who use both cable TV and Internet services from One receive discounts similar to offers found at competitors, the company cites as an example the Home Giganet 1000 and Family TV package offer, which costs HUF 11,490 per month, which is can be reduced to HUF 9,192 with band discounts. One undertakes a price guarantee for these prices until 2025, which means that the price adjustment due in the spring does not apply to these offers.
Integration and rebranding have brought little change in the mobile segment so far, the only tangible novelty is that those with previous Vodafone or Digi landline subscriptions can choose a new mobile subscription with unlimited domestic data traffic and calls for HUF 9,990 per month in return. The top-up card offer has changed slightly since January 1, the starting package of which provides 3 GB of data and 10 minutes of call time, at a HUF 19 per minute fee that has not changed for years.
At the press conference planned for the store opening, relatively little was said about the ongoing technical developments, but at the same time, Tamás Bányai, CEO of One Hungary, said that the company’s gigabit-capable network now reaches two million potential households. Although there are no significant differences in terms of the size of the customer base, One has something to gain in this area compared to its number one rival, Magyar Telekom, as the competitor last October reported 3.8 million potential gigabit households, of which 2.85 million the currently most advanced optical connection is also available for households.
In response to HWSW’s question, Bányai explained at the press conference that One is already prioritizing optical installations in the new service areas, and the HFC network is also being modernized in parallel. According to Bányai, in terms of mobile network developments, increasing 5G network coverage in 2024 was not the focus, but this year this will change based on the company’s intentions.
The CEO emphasized that three times as many new base stations were built in Vodafone’s network in the two years since the 4iG acquisition than in the previous two-year period.
According to the strategic agreement signed with the Hungarian government in November 2023, the company undertook to install 5G services at 1,000 stations by 2028 in the C-band, which is theoretically capable of gigabit transmission speeds – Bányai did not reveal the specifics of how many of these have been implemented so far.
