On Friday, just before 6 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred near Selah pri Karteljevo in Dolenjsko.
The 64-year-old driver of a BMW car with Austrian registration plates stopped in the slow lane due to a breakdown. He turned on all the safety flashers and put up the safety triangle. When the driver of a truck with a trailer drove in the same direction, towards Obrežje, the BMW driver was in front of his vehicle. But the 38-year-old driver of the truck with Bosnian license plates crashed into the rear of the BMW without braking and pushed it several meters in front of him along the safety fence. The 64-year-old man was thrown over the safety fence during the collision, where he then lay down badly injured. Paramedics treated him and took him to the hospital, informed the Novo mesto Police Department.
Caution is essential when stopping on the road
Police officers warn that in the event of a traffic accident on the highway, the place of the traffic accident must be marked or secured, and we must act with extreme caution. We turn on the safety indicators and place the safety triangle. The driver and passengers should put on reflective vests, pay attention to their own safety at all times and retreat behind the safety fence as soon as possible. They should immediately inform the police about the accident on the emergency number 113 and wait for the arrival of the emergency services.
Due to the increasingly dense traffic on highways and expressways, the chances of traffic accidents causing traffic jams, injuries to people and infrastructure, and fatalities are increasing. The consequences of accidents can be even worse if emergency vehicles cannot access the accident locations. Correct alignment during a traffic jam on the motorway is vital as it can save a life. By correctly classifying the vehicles, we enable ambulances to access victims faster and thereby increase their chances of survival by up to 40 percent. At any traffic jam, follow the rule on the classification of vehicles:
