Nord Stream 2 has been completed, and its branch that survived the sabotage is ready to launch at any time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. According to him, Donald Trump’s statement about the destruction of the gas pipeline was made “in the heat of the election” and should not be taken seriously. Experts confirmed to RT that the surviving line is ready to resume work and can pump about 30 billion cubic meters of gas.
One line of Nord Stream 2 has survived and is ready to launch at any moment, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. Thus, he responded to the statement of US presidential candidate Donald Trump about the liquidation of the gas pipeline.
Nord Stream – it was eventually completed. Moreover, the Nord Stream 2 line has survived, and at any moment, as President Putin said, it is ready to launch,” the Kremlin representative noted.
Therefore, according to him, it is difficult to imagine what exactly Donald Trump had in mind when he spoke about the complete destruction of the gas pipeline. For clarification, he suggested that journalists contact the politician’s election headquarters.
Trump announced the destruction of the gas pipeline in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson. He responded accordingly to numerous accusations about working in the interests of Moscow. The former president called people who hold such views “sick” and recalled that it was he who allegedly destroyed “the largest gas pipeline in the world.”
In a conversation with reporters, a Kremlin spokesman attributed Trump’s statements to “election fever.” According to him, the election race in the United States has entered the home stretch, and today one can increasingly hear such harsh and emotional statements, including insults, from candidates.
“A lot of things are overly extravagant, overly emotional. We hear candidates insulting each other… In the heat of this election race, we hear the statements you mentioned,” Peskov explained.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called the version about the blowing up of the Nord Stream by Ukrainian divers nonsense.
Let us recall that at the end of December 2019, Trump, as President of the United States, imposed sanctions against companies involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2. As a result, the Swiss company Allseas, which was involved in laying the pipes, stopped work. However, construction resumed a year later and was completed in September 2021, under Joe Biden.
Explosions at Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 occurred at the end of September 2022. The operator company Nord Stream AG announced unprecedented destruction and refused to predict the timing of the return of gas pipelines to operation.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin also recalled that one of the gas pipeline lines is still operational. During a press conference following the BRICS summit in Kazan, the president said that all one needs to do is press a button to start the gas pipeline.
“There is still one line along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, Nord Stream 2.” What does it cost the German authorities? Just press a button and everything goes. But they do not do this for political reasons,” the Russian President explained.
It all depends on Germany
The possibility of launching the gas pipeline is confirmed by the opinion of experts. Thus, Igor Yushkov, an expert at the Financial University under the Russian Government and a leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund, emphasized in a conversation with RT that the surviving line of Nord Stream 2 can pump tens of billions of cubic meters of gas.
“It can pump 27.5 billion cubic meters—design capacity. It can work with an increase in design capacity, so its significance has not yet been lost, and no one has yet imposed sanctions against it, that is, it can be launched at any time. Why is Nord Stream 2 still not working? Purely because of bureaucratic problems,” the analyst explained.
According to him, the resumption of work is complicated by the fact that the German Ministry of Economics has withdrawn its assessment of the impact of Nord Stream 2 on the German economy, so now the package of documents required for the launch is incomplete.
“If the political situation changes, then, in principle, it will be possible to launch it quite quickly. This will not require permission from the entire European Union, there will be no need to lift any sanctions, it can be launched quite quickly, but there is no political decision in the leadership of Germany itself for this yet,” the expert concluded.
