AI and Social Media complement creativity, giving it an outside voice and image

Dana Marin she’s an interior designer and entrepreneur, and for eight years she’s been the creative force behind Postcard Projects, turning “ugly houses into beautiful houses,” as her son puts it. Dana launched the “How to arrange the child’s room” guide, a project that aims to help parents create rooms for their little ones by themselves, offering practical advice and affordable solutions.

“AI and Social Media complement creativity, giving it a voice and an outside image. Ideally, AI should take over the task part, not the creative part, but it can be a help in the creative process if you know what to tell it ask,” says Dana.

Dana invokes creativity when scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram, possibly with some good music playing in the background. She also draws her inspiration from travels or museums, sometimes from parenting conferences. When not creating story spaces, Dana is a passionate traveler and an active member of the community, contributing to the initiatives of the Icoanei-Ioanid Civic Initiative Group.

Personal definition of creativity

Creativity is the part of us where we let our imagination run free and create a better, more beautiful, more interesting, more challenging and exciting world for all of us.

How the perspective has changed

The perspective on creativity has changed over time, from the moments of inspiration that we thought hit you – and yes, they still happen, but in an already creative context – to how you focus on what you have done, you withdraw into your imagination, you also bring the concrete part from which you start and then you induce the moment of creation, when you need it. It is also work, therefore, but also feeling and impulse.

Habits, shortcuts, recipes

I summon creativity when diving into Pinterest or Instagram, ideally with some appropriate music playing in the background. I start from an idea or a combination of colors and arrive, from visual to visual, to a result that is completely different from the original source. It’s the same when I’m playing with my 5-year-old boy and I try not to think too much about what I want to do, I just let the moment flow and see what happens.

What came with the experience

It’s easier to access creativity now because I know I’m starting from somewhere and the path will lead me to a result. Whether this is the desired result, by the end, remains to be seen, but at least you are slowly moving in a direction. For example, if I have no other starting point in the realization of an interior design concept, I start from the Beneficiary Questionnaire, which I ask my clients to fill in at the beginning of our collaboration. There I have questions of many kinds, regarding the space that we restore, finish, furnish, personalize, but also questions regarding the way of being, living and functioning of the beneficiary in that house, in each room of it. I also like and find it essential to know what kind of people my customers are, what colors they prefer, what materials, textures, where they take their vacations, what hobbies they practice and with whom. In general, personal questions based on which I can create a stylistic direction, a concept/theme and a color palette.

How do you train your creativity?

I train my creativity the most when I’m on vacation and visiting/seeing/living/experiencing. When I get to design fairs, exhibitions, museums, or when I have meaningful and interesting conversations on topics from art and history to movies, books, architecture, design, etc., even parenting or the universe of children. Including online magazines and newsletters are a source of inspiration and learning.

Courses, workshops, events to inspire you

I go to interior design events and conferences as often as I can. I have been doing courses and workshops, lately quite a lot about business and entrepreneurship. I listen with interest to podcasts from several fields, talks and online presentations. I always like to learn new things, so I’m also looking for new books on interior design or entrepreneurship to be able to develop myself continuously. I am currently a student at CIL* SCHOOL, a mini MBA of creative industries.

The obstacles to creativity

In general, budget is creativity’s worst enemy. 🙂 I’m also put off by people I’m not on the same wavelength with and have to make an extra effort to communicate with.

What happens when you have blackouts

Blockage moments are, in fact, moments of intense fatigue that come after intense periods of work. Taking a break works: I relax, watch a movie, a play, read fiction or, if I can, go away with the family for a few days. Time spent with the baby helps me reconnect and gradually come back.

AI, Social Media and Creativity

AI and Social Media complement creativity, giving it an outside voice and image. Ideally, the AI would take over the tasks part, not the creative part, but it can be a help in the creative process if you know what to ask of it.

The creative fields of recent years

The film industry seems to me to be the most creative at the moment. I am glad to see that both interior design and product design are constantly growing, trying to implement unconventional and innovative ideas. At least outside. 🙂

Do you have a role model?

When it comes to children’s rooms and playgrounds, I love following @grohplayrooms. In interior design, I am inspired by many creatives, such as Annterior, Hamid Nicola Katrib, Pick Two, Corvin, Twins Studio, Duende de Luna and Mihai Caraghiaur. But I don’t have a clear role model.

Tool-uri creative

I use SketchUp for technical drawing, Photoshop for moodboards, Canva for quick presentations and CapCut for video editing.
