Air transport leads consumer complaints – Society

Air transport, regulated by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), led complaints in the transport and leisure sector between January and August this year, with 6,270 complaints, according to the Directorate-General for Consumer Affairs (DGC) this Friday.Complaints to ANAC are submitted in the event of denied boarding, placement in a lower class, cancellation or considerable delay of a flight departing from Portuguese airports, or on flights from countries outside the European Union arriving at Portuguese airports, provided that they are operated by EU air carriers.
The tourism and leisure sector received 9,668 complaints in the Electronic Complaints Book (LRE) from January to August, 2,312 fewer complaints than in the same period last year, when 11,980 complaints were registered. Among the sectors inspected by the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE), which received 1,970 complaints, are restaurants (795 complaints), followed by hotels (531) and local accommodation (165). Turismo de Portugal received 766 complaints about travel agencies and the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT) received 571 about short-term vehicle rentals.The DGC noted that the LRE statistical data for July and August are provisional, as they await validation by regulatory or supervisory entities.
