AirPods 4, two new models coming in September

According to what was reported in the latest newsletter “Power On” by Mark Gurman, Apple is ready to launch dtwo new AirPods 4 variants as early as next month. These new models will include an entry-level and a mid-range version, set to replace the current AirPods 2 and AirPods 3, respectively.

The AirPods 2, introduced in 2019, represented the entry-level option for anyone who wanted to get into the world of Apple wireless headphones. Despite the now dated design, these earphones are still highly appreciated for their affordable price. They do, however, lack some of the more modern features found in later models, but they still serve their purpose well as basic wireless headphones for iPhone.

AirPods 3, on the other hand, launched in October 2021 and brought with them a number of improvements, including Spatial Audio, a new force sensor, and a significant upgrade in sound quality.

What can we expect from AirPods 4?

According to Gurman, The AirPods 4 will be designed to replace both current modelswith an entry-level version replacing the AirPods 2 and a mid-range model replacing the AirPods 3. Both variants will have a similar design, but there will be one major difference: active noise cancellation.

The mid-range model of AirPods 4 will in fact be equipped with active noise cancellationwhile the entry-level version will be without it. Gurman clarified that these mid-range AirPods 4 should not be confused with the AirPods Pro 3, which are expected to be updated later. Beyond that information, he did not provide any further details.

It’s likely that both versions of the AirPods 4 will adopt the USB-C port. Additionally, Gurman says that the entry-level version will not support wireless charging, while the mid-range model is expected to include the feature.

It remains to be seen what Apple will decide to call these new models. The company could probably opt for names like AirPods Lite and AirPods 4. Either way, it won’t take long to find out.
