The AirPods Maxintroduced in 2020, do not seem destined to receive significant updates in the near future. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple currently has no “concrete plans” for a new version of its over-ear headphones high-end. The current model will therefore remain the point of reference for users interested in this product category.
In September, Apple introduced two minor updates to the AirPods Max con porta USB-C instead of the Lightning connector, in line with European directives, and new color options.
However, there have been no major changes at the hardware level. The headphones continue to use the chip H1the same one introduced in 2019. This means that advanced features such asAdaptive Audiopresent instead in AirPods Pro 2and there are no improvements in active noise cancellation (ANC).
Despite the absence of technical innovations, the AirPods Max maintain the premium price of 629 euro in Italy, without any reduction to compensate for the now dated internal architecture.
According to Gurman, the sales of the AirPods Max do not justify significant investments in a second generation. This suggests that a possible model AirPods Max 2 it may still be a long way off, if it ever arrives. For users hoping for headphones with a new design or advanced features, the advice is to look elsewhere.
