Airports are back to normal after Microsoft’s global crash

No one remembers a computer blackout that has caused as much chaos worldwide as the one that occurred this Friday. A human error in the application of an antivirus system by the American company Crowdstrike brought down the Microsoft operating system. Of all the paralyzed sectors, the most affected has been air transport, which is now returning to normal in Spain, according to Marco Chiazza in the video.

In this way, in case of registering any delay o cancellationwould be the responsibility of the airlines and not of AenaThe incident left some major airlines grounded, while delays, cancellations and the need to resort to manual systems occurred at virtually all airports around the world.

According to the latest figures provided by Aena, up to 7:00 pm on Friday, the Spanish airports in its network had operated 5,600 flights and there had been some 400 cancellations, 6.5% of operations, due to the computer failure.

400 flights cancelled in Spain

There are people who had to spend the night at the airport due to cancellations, as in the case of Roberto, who was caught by the blackout at Santorini airport in Greece. He has already obtained his return ticket for this Saturday.

Like him, thousands of travellers around the world are still waiting for a solution and many complain about the lack of information. It is the hangover of a chaos that is gradually calming down. The impact on aviation has been massive, more than 40,000 flights affected and between 4,000 and 5,000 cancelled, 400 of them in Spain.

Consumer associations remind that airlines have obligations. “If you have been the victim of a flight cancellation, the airline must refund the cost of the flight or provide alternative transport on a convenient date.”

Although the companies are not responsible for the blackout, it is ruled out. With the systems down and blue screensalso called death, has had to recover the mode for a few hours analog. Airports had to manage check-ins and boarding manually. Only one thing has been saved Russia which, after years of Western sanctions, has developed another operating system that on this occasion has saved them from airport collapse.
