Launched in April 2021, the AirTag has established itself as one of the best object tracking devices. Despite its success, Apple never updated its design or hardware features. Now, however, it seems that things are changing: according to various rumors, a new AirTag model could debut in mid-2025bringing with it some interesting news.
According to what was reported by Mark Gurman by Bloomberg, the new AirTag, identified with the code name “B589”, is already in the production testing phase and could be launched around mid-2025. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also confirms this launch window, although production was initially scheduled for 2024.
Despite the delay, the wait could be justified by the technological improvements that Apple wants to implement.
The rumors point to some key features that could make the second generation AirTag even more competitive:
1. Advanced chip and improved precision
The new model should integrate the second generation of the Ultra Wideband chip, the same one seen in the recent iPhone 15. This update promises more precise tracking, especially over long distances, improving functionality Precision Finding.
2. Safer speaker
One of the criticisms leveled against AirTags is the potential misuse for tracking people without their consent. To combat this problem, Apple could make the integrated speaker more difficult to remove, improving security and preventing abuse.
3. Integration with Vision Pro
A particularly intriguing detail concerns the integration with Vision Pro, Apple’s AR/VR viewer. While there are no specific details yet, this feature could pave the way for new tracking applications, taking advantage of the headset’s immersive interface.
4. Same aesthetic, new capabilities
Don’t expect a revolutionary design: according to Gurman, the AirTag will maintain a similar look to the current model. The new features will all be under the hood.
The AirTag is already an extremely functional product, but the improvements expected in the second generation could make it even more interesting. The ability to track objects with greater precision and the connection with Vision Pro could open up innovative scenarios, both for everyday use and in professional contexts.
