Appearing in the Boo arc, Kaioshin has become a central character in the universe of Dragon Ball. The last episode of Dragon Ball DAIMA tells us his real name.
Dragon Ball: Kaioshin’s true identity
Launched on October 11, 2024, the series Dragon Ball DAIMA is a true gift given to fans of Dragon Ballon the occasion of the forty years of the first publication of Akira Toriyama’s cult manga in the pages of Weekly Shōnen Jump. Forty years already, for a license that has forever revolutionized the shonen nekketsu genre. If this anniversary has a special flavor, because of the tragic death of Akira Toriyama last March, many fans are delighted to discover a new episode of Dragon Ball DAIMAespecially since for its part the manga Dragon Ball Super is currently on indefinite hiatus.
Designed by Akira Toriyama himself, Dragon Ball DAIMA is between the end of Dragon Ball Z and the beginning of Dragon Ball Super. A few weeks after defeating the demon Boo, the Z Fighters are having a good time. But their rest is disrupted when Gomah, the new king of Demons, manages to reunite the Dragon Balls and asks Shenron to transform them into six-year-old children, in order to prevent these powerful warriors from coming to destroy the Demon Kingdom. Determined to return to his normal size, Son Goku goes with Kaioshin and the mysterious Glorio to the Demon Kingdom to reunite the local Dragon Balls. held by the powerful Tamagami.
Thought as a return to the sources of Dragon Ballreconnecting with the adventure stories and schoolboy humor of the beginnings of manga, Dragon Ball DAIMA is a completely enjoyable series, despite a pace that is perhaps a bit too slow. But the quality of its animation and its desire to expand the universe – sometimes at the cost of inconsistencies with the lore – make it excellent entertainment. We thus learned that beings with pointy ears – including the inhabitants of the planet Namek – were originally from the Demon Realm and that Kaioshin was a Glind.
Episode 7, released on Friday, November 27, taught us another important information about Kaioshin: in the Demon Realm, where he comes from, he is known by his real name, Nahare. In order to avoid a new problem of consistency with respect to continuity – why don’t we call it by its real name in Dragon Ball Super ? -, Son Goku states that it feels weird to call him that and that he prefers to continue calling him Kaioshin. In any case, this is not the first time that we discover that a character from Dragon Ball has another name. We think in particular of Son Goku, whose Saiyan name is Kakarot.
