alarms do not go off or go off too late

Alarm clocks and the iPhone remain a problem. This time, a section of iPhone users are complaining about persistent disappearing or delayed alarms, months after Apple promised a fix.

As early as April of last year, iPhone users complained about problems with the device’s alarm clock. Apple promised a solution at the time, but apparently there are still iPhone users who are experiencing the problems. Users show very recent photos of, for example, an iPhone that sets off a 10:30 alarm at 12:42 p.m. Android Authority came across a Reddit post where all kinds of iPhone users are reporting similar complaints.

It seems that the alarm is shown on the screen for users, but the iPhone is not making any sound and/or vibrating at the same time. “My morning alarm showed up as going off even though it made no sound and no vibration for 40 minutes,” writes Reddit user Slawek_Soup. But another user didn’t see the alarm go off until two hours later than intended, so there appear to be several different errors.

Solution not found yet

Some users who report complaints still have iOS 17, and therefore may not have the update that should solve the problems. But others report that they are running iOS 18, which should actually solve the problems. There are users who seek a solution in disabling the attention detection. With this function, the volume of the alarm is turned down as soon as your face appears in the Face ID scanner. The idea is that you are then aware of the alarm and can switch it off without making any noise. However, that step does not seem to be a solution for users with alarm clock problems.

Both Android Authority as The Verge have asked Apple for a response, but have not yet received one.
