Alert across the coast, 14 districts may experience flooding

Cyclone ‘Dana’ formed in Bay of Bengal moved closer to the coast. Due to the impact of this strong cyclone, there may be floods in 14 coastal districts. Meanwhile, Cyclone Dana is going to hit India’s West Bengal and Odisha by Friday morning, the country’s Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted. As a result, the coastal residents of these two states of India are waiting for panic.

In an update at 11 pm local time, IMD said, the distance of Ghunijhar Dana from Odisha’s Paradwip is only 60 km, the distance from Dhamra is 80 km and the distance from Sagar Dwip is 180 km. In the last six hours, the cyclone has moved north-west at a speed of 13 km.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Cyclone Dana intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. At around 11pm local time, the cyclone’s center is gusting to 125 kilometers per hour. However, the IMD said the speed of the cyclone will slow down a bit when it hits the coast. Then it will weaken from super strong to severe cyclone.

Meanwhile, on Thursday night, Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s special notification number 11 informed that the strong cyclone ‘Dana’ in the Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas has moved further north-northwestward. It is likely to cross the North Orissa-West Bengal coast between India’s Puri and Sagar Islands by Thursday midnight. Its impact is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of the country as well as 2 to 3 feet high tides in 14 districts.

The notification signed by meteorologist Omar Farooq also said that the severe cyclone ‘Dana’, located in the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, was 555 km southwest of Chittagong sea port, 540 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar sea port, 385 km southwest of Mongla sea port and 405 km southwest of Payra sea port at 6 pm on Thursday. was staying

According to the advisory, sustained maximum wind speed of 90 km/h within 64 km of the cyclone center may increase to 110 km/h in gusty or gale-like form. The sea is very rough in the vicinity of the strong cyclone center.

Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to show local warning signal number three.

Due to the advance of the severe cyclone, the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Barguna, Barisal, Jhalkathi, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Bhola, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Feni, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar and the low lying areas of their remote islands and chars are 2-3 feet higher than the normal tide. Wind driven tides can cause inundation.

Fishing boats and trawlers in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to remain in safe shelter until further notice.
