- The 35-year-old is now free after less than two days of imprisonment in San Vittore
- The judge considered that the relationship between the two was not dominated exclusively by a climate of threats and intimidation
- It emerged that the 24-year-old had withdrawn the first complaint made against him, then accepted a luxury bag as a gift
Alessandro Basciano was released Saturday afternoon from prisonwhere he had been detained for less than two days following his arrest on Thursday on the orders of judge Anna Magelli for alleged episodes of stalking against his ex-partner, Sophie Codegoni24 years old.
The 35-year-old man was accused of having persecuted, threatened and beaten her, accusations formalized in two different complaints filed by Codegoni, the first on 9 December 2023 and the second on 14 November 2024.
Basciano’s defense lawyer, Leonardo D’Erasmo, appeared before Judge Magelli to ask for the revocation precautionary measures, obtaining a favorable outcome.
According to the judge, the messages filed by the suspect would have demonstrated elements capable of rendering “It is hardly credible that Codegoni lived in a constant state of anxiety and fear”as reported by Il Corriere della Sera. To strengthen this assessment, it emerged that Codegoni had withdrawn the first one lawsuit made against her ex-partner.
A further element that weighed in the judge’s decision concerns an episode that occurred just three days before the last complaint. Sophie would have accepted as a gift a very expensive bag and a letter from Basciano, then referring, in an exchange with him, as Corsera always reports, to “mutual faults and responsibilities”.
This episode, according to the magistrate, is in contrast with the picture of a relationship dominated exclusively by a climate of threats and intimidation.
The Via Solferino newspaper underlines that the judge nevertheless recognized that Basciano engaged in conduct “characterized by verbal rudeness and disrespectful expressions” against Codegoni, but established that there are no longer reasons to apply precautionary measures, not even the approach ban requested by the Prosecutor’s Office.
A few hours earlier Codegoni, who with Basciano has a one and a half year old daughter, Celine Bluehad broken his silence on the matter via social media.
In a post he wrote: “I couldn’t do otherwise. I fought against myself, against pain and fear. I have long hoped for change, but I was wrong and admitting it is heartbreaking”.
“I had to protect myself, our daughter and the people I love. They say it takes courage but I don’t feel brave, I simply feel like a woman and a mother who did what was unfortunately necessary, even when she would have just wanted to close her eyes and hope that everything would work itself out.”he added.
“In the midst of this chaos I am left with the awareness that I had the strength, to choose the right, to put my safety and serenity and that of my family first”he continued.
“Now I have to move forward, be a mother, continue working, find myself again, one step at a time, with the hope that one day all this can remain just a distant memory”he concluded.
