The Alfa Romeo Junior is the first electric car from the famous Alfa Romeo. Mission accomplished or do we now only long for the glory days of the Alfasud and the Alfa 33?
The Alfa Romeo Junior must again become a real Alfa for the people, like the Alfasud, the Alfa 33, the Alfa 145/146 and the Mito. The latter was on the platform of the Fiat Grande Punto, but was at least still Italian. The Junior comes off the production line in Poland and is a Stellantis clone, further straining the relationship between Alfa and its enthusiasts.

Alfa Junior Veloce has 280 hp
Alfa Romeo has chosen to introduce the 280 hp Junior Veloce on its own circuit in Balocco, an hour’s drive from Milan, where the brand once started. Here we could go about our business as long as we kept it neatly behindpace car remained, a white one Alfa Romeo Giulia. He had a lot of fun with it, and so did we.
Bends that we normally approach at 40 km/h or less, we now took at more than double the speed. The Junior thought it was all fine; you can take the corner fast without losing control or getting the feeling that you have gone too far. The Junior can be placed very precisely and the nice thing is: it leaves some room for maneuver. The Alfa wags a bit, slides slightly over the front wheels, corrects itself and completes the bend. No shortage of grip.
Not too hardcore
As soon as we exit the bend, we press the right pedal and the 4.17 meter long ‘Alfaatje’ rushes forward. With 280 hp of pure electric power and 345 Nm that is ready from 250 rpm, we expected that we would be pressed into the backrest of the sports seat, but this does not happen; it is a linear acceleration, without your stomach turning immediately. A conscious choice by Alfa, which did not want to make the Junior too hardcore. If you want that, you can go to the Abarth 600e.
Speaking of the seats: they are from Sabelt, are fantastic and keep you firmly in place, even when you are cornering at high speed. The handlebars are easy to grip and are nicely vertical.
Alfa Romeo Junior test conclusion
As always with a new Alfa Romeo, expectations are high, especially when it comes to driving characteristics. Enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief, because the Junior Veloce is great fun to drive for those who like a sporty driving style and are looking for experience and emotion in a car. We only miss the crackling sound of the Alfasud QV and the 33 1.7 QV.
