All owners of electric scooters in Russia will be required to install a state number and a radio beacon to track their location

Owners of electric scooters will have to install registration numbers and radio beacons so that they can be tracked in real time, said Artem Sheikin, a member of the Federation Council Committee on State Building and Constitutional Legislation.

Such amendments are being prepared for the second reading of the bill on additional liability for SIM users. Last week it passed the first reading in the State Duma.

Under the new law, the Ministry of Transport will create a SIM registry, in which each scooter will be assigned a unique number and tag. Thus, the issue of automatic recording of violations and searching for SIM owners will be resolved.

These measures will apply to all electric scooters, including private ones. After purchasing, the owner of an electric scooter will have to register it, receive a number and a radio frequency beacon.

How exactly the system will work, how much it will cost to register a scooter (if you have to pay for it) and what fine will be imposed on violators is still unknown.

In addition to the new registration method, the bill introduces fines for SIM owners, including for riding an electric scooter together and leaving the scene of an accident. (Parliamentary newspaper)
