The dream they had in the Drina Folklore Society from Brisbane came to life last year, when they organized their premiere festival of folk traditions, music and games at the Serbian-Australian Center (SAC) in Vilavong with great success. The best confirmation that this manifestation was a complete success will follow this Saturday, November 9, when the Second Folklore Festival will be held at the same place under the auspices of Drina and SAC.
The gates of the Center in Vilavong will be open for visitors from 11:00 a.m., and the official Festival program will begin at noon. As announced by the organizers, the audience will have the opportunity to see ensembles from three states on the east coast – Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria – on stage.
The participation was confirmed by the Karađorđe Cultural and Artistic Society from Sydney, the Šumadija Folklore Group from Melbourne, as well as five societies from Brisbane. Local groups will perform KUD Mlado srce, Morava Folklore Ensemble, Serbian School Sveti Sava and local Drina, while guests from the Bulgarian community of Brisbane, members of the Zdravec Dance Group will give the Festival an international character.
“We feel extremely privileged that we will be able to welcome exceptional folklore groups this year and that we have prepared such a rich folklore program for the audience. Thank you to all of our amazing groups for their hard work and dedication, including their choreographers, to preserve Serbian and Bulgarian culture through dance. We can’t wait to see them perform,” the hosts from SAC Vilavong announced on social networks.
In addition to the rich folklore program, the festival will also have its own music and entertainment section. The organizers from the Drina Folklore Group have announced that special guests from Melbourne will be responsible for the good atmosphere.
“The fun that will follow the official program of the Festival will last well into the night. Our guests will perform, singers Sanja Ubiparipović and Nikola Cabo, as well as a talented band consisting of Miroslav Bogdanović, Aleksandar Bogdanović and Marko Sredojević”, informed the hosts.
The organizers say that there are many reasons why all roads lead to Vilavong this Saturday.
“Join us for an unforgettable day of cultural celebration at our Second Folklore Festival. We invite you to come and experience the colorful traditions of Serbia through enchanting folk performances and stunning international entertainment. “Talented groups will revive the rich heritage of Serbian dance, music and storytelling, creating a magical atmosphere for all ages,” it was pointed out on the page of the Drina Folklore Group.
Tickets $10, children free
The hosts invite everyone to join the event in Vilavong and make it a big family event. The ticket to the festival costs a symbolic 10 dollars, while the entrance is free for those under 18 years old. A number of interesting and entertaining activities are prepared for children, while the elderly will be able to participate in a lottery for which very valuable prizes are provided. Along with all that, of course, food, drink and souvenir stands are inevitable.
More than 60 volunteers
The great team of the Serbian-Australian Center in Vilavong will make sure that the festival runs smoothly and that all guests return home satisfied. For this occasion, they gathered more than 60 volunteers who will primarily be engaged in the preparation and sale of delicious culinary specialties and a wide range of drinks.
