Apple has released the fourth beta of iOS 18, introducing small changes to a number of features already present in the operating system. There are no major additions in this beta, but Apple continues to refine existing features and the design.
Wallpapers for CarPlay
Apple has added new wallpapers in both Light and Dark mode for CarPlay, mirroring the wallpapers that have been added to iPhone.
Settings
Apple has added a new way to access your iCloud settings in the Settings app. There is now an iCloud option paired with the App Store, Game Center, and Wallet. You can still access your iCloud settings by tapping your Apple account and choosing iCloud from that interface.
Camera controls
In the Camera section of the Settings app, there is a new “Controls Menu” option. When enabled, this option retains the previously used camera tool when expanding the controls menu rather than showing the full list of camera control options when using the Camera app.
Hidden Folder
Apple has changed the design of the Hidden folder in the App Library. Instead of showing an eye icon with a line through it, we now have grayed out app squares.
Dark mode and light mode icons
The icons between the two modes are now appropriately synchronized with the related settings on the iPhone when using the “Auto” setting for Light and Dark modes.
With Auto mode enabled, icons now dim when Relative Mode is enabled, and light up when Dark Mode is disabled. This setting did not work in previous betas.
Stock Market Icon
Apple has changed the design of the Stocks app icon. The lines are thinner and there is no longer a white haze at the bottom of the icon.
Mirroring dell’iPhone
This is a macOS Sequoia feature rather than an iOS 18 feature, but when you use iPhone mirroring with macOS Sequoia beta 4, you can change the size of the iPhone window on your Mac display.
Control Center
There’s a new Control Center switch for Bluetooth, but it doesn’t work yet. Apple also added a Silent Mode switch and an Eye Mirroring accessibility option.
The Open Music option from Control Center has been removed.
AssistiveTouch
New Type to Siri and Apple Watch Mirroring options are available for AssistiveTouch.
Apple Intelligence
There are further references to Apple Intelligence features, which suggests that Apple is continuing to prepare to implement these new features in future betas, at least in the US.
Torch
The new Flashlight UI, previously exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro, is now available on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
Apple Music
There are hints in this beta that Apple Music will be able to automatically change playlist artwork, using Apple Intelligence. The strings suggest that there will be a “Create Image” button when editing a playlist. This button will invoke Image Playground, which is part of Apple Intelligence.
Apple Music will most likely ask you what you want the playlist artwork to look like and then generate a few options to choose from. Unfortunately, the feature is still in development and, like other Apple Intelligence features, is not available to beta users.
