It has been alleged that a teenage girl was gang-raped by a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw on her way from Chittagong’s Banshkhali to her home in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali.
The girl’s family claimed that the incident of gang-rape took place after 10:00 p.m. in the Parabon near the embankment in Chakria’s coastal Badarkhali district.
After that, at around one in the morning, the girl returned from Paraban area and came to the eastern part of Badarkhali link bridge on Chakria-Maheshkhali road and informed the local people about the incident. At that time the locals took him to Badarkhalisth General Hospital. However, this morning the police admitted the girl to the Upazila Health Complex.
The family members said that the 15-year-old girl from the new market area of Fakira Ghonasth in Maheshkhali Upazila was returning home from her sister’s house in Banskhali, Chittagong, on Sunday night in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. But as the car broke down, the auto driver dropped the girl on the Chakria-Maheshkhali bridge. When the girl was crossing the bridge on foot, two young men took her hostage. After that, a few others took him inside the parabon by holding his face. The girl and her family claimed that several youths raped her there.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station. Manzoor Quader Bhuiyan said, ‘On receiving information that a girl has been gang-raped in Badarkhali, Chakria Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) MM Raqib Ur-Raja along with him visited the scene at night. Legal action will be taken after a detailed investigation of the incident. Besides, the police is working to identify those involved in the possible incident. Some signs have already been recovered.
