Alma Media’s change negotiations concluded – The publication of the three magazines will stop

Kauppalehti’s printed supplements Option and Fakta will end at the turn of the year. Publishing a trade newspaper Middle Soul at the same time abolishes the Mediuutiset magazine aimed at doctors.

The decommissioned media belong Alma News Medianwhose change negotiations started on September 30 have been completed. Talouselämä is also part of Alma News Media.

As a result of the change negotiations, the strength of the personnel will decrease by 20 person-years. Most of the reductions are realized through separation agreements.

At the beginning of the negotiations, the maximum reduction need was 30 person-years. A new task was found for some of the personnel by changing the job description.

About 80 people were involved in the negotiations. Almost 300 people work in Alma News Media’s editorial department.

The turnover of the discontinued products in 2024 is approximately two million euros. As a result of the changes, the relative profitability of the segment is expected to strengthen. As a result of the personnel arrangements, Alma Media will record an expense of approximately EUR 0.7 million, which will be reported as an adjusted item in the fourth quarter result.

“Even though Option and Fakta’s print products will end at the end of the year, Kauppalehti will continue to publish in-depth and wide-ranging content on the topics of working life, management and lifestyle”, Kauppalehti’s editor-in-chief Riina Nevalainen says.

“Media consumption is moving more and more digital all the time. That’s why we, too, in the editorial department, are focusing even more of our resources on producing a comprehensive and high-quality digital Kauppalehti.”

Kauppalehti is currently planning new types of digital content concepts. In the future, Kauppalehti will publish an even more versatile coverage of in-depth journalism alongside financial news and the stock market. The subject areas familiar from Option and Fakta will continue to be part of Kauppalehti. At the beginning of 2025, a new type of content will be published as part of Kauppalehti’s weekly changes.

Subscribers of the discontinued magazines will be contacted directly in the coming weeks.

The publication of Option began in 1987. The publication of Fakta began in 1981, and it was published before Alma Media A-Ledet and Talent. Fakta has been available to all Kauppalehti subscribers since 2020. Mediuutiset was founded in 1998.

Alma News Media’s new joint car editorial to be established will do car journalism in both Iltalehti and Kauppalehti. Mikrobitti magazine will be transferred to consumer media with the aim of expanding the readership interested in digital issues.

Alma News Media’s goal is to grow its digital media business and sharpen the news coverage of the digital Kauppalehti and Iltalehti in particular, as well as strengthen their value to subscribers and advertisers.
