Before the upcoming Science and Technology Week in Slovakia, we bring you information about the opening event, which is the AMAVET Science and Technology Festival 2024 – 27th year.
Opening motto: Science is connected with art!
Science and Technology Week in Slovakia 2024 (TVT), its 21st year, will take place from Monday 11 to Sunday 17 November. Its goal is to popularize science and present the work of scientists to the public, but also to arouse the interest of young people in the study of scientific and technical directions that help solve global problems and challenges. TVT will be officially opened at an event that has been motivating young people for 27 years to devote their studies and work to science and technology. It is the AMAVET 2024 Science and Technology Festival (FVAT). For 34 years, the Association for Youth, Science and Technology (AMAVET) has been concentrating the most talented students from all over Slovakia in order to give them the opportunity to discover their talent and desire to learn, to think, to find an answer to the question WHY?
The 27th year of FVAT will combine the most natural thing in human life – SCIENCE with ART! … let yourself be surprised! Watch the opening of the TVT in the Winter Riding School of Bratislava Castle on Monday 11/11/2024 from 9:00 a.m. at:
This year’s concentration of the mind is made up of young science and technology enthusiasts who advanced from the eight regional rounds to the national finals in Bratislava. They are primarily high school students, but in addition to them, some more talented students from elementary schools also advanced. From November 11 to 12, 2024, they will compete for advancement to world competitions and exhibitions of scientific and technical projects. The AMAVET festival this year, figuratively speaking, “ascended from the Danube to the Castle”! It will take place in the Winter Stables of the Bratislava Castle, where dignified spaces, breathing history, will provide future creators of economic and social progress to present their creative ideas.
From the eight FVAT regional rounds, 63 projects, implemented by 86 authors (one or two authors can work on 1 project) advanced to the national finals. They will compete in the categories of Biology, Medicine and Healthcare, Environmental Sciences, Electricity and Mechanics, Energy and Transport, Chemistry, Informatics and Computer Engineering and Social Sciences. Biology and chemistry are the most represented. The interest of this year is, for example, the progress of Filip Lajčiak and Matúš Kvašňovský. They are siblings who follow their talented world champions Michal Lajčiak and Ľudmila Kvašňovská. Proof of how science and victory in it is “contagious”!
Traditionally, the participation of strong companies and a wide academic community brings added value to the AMAVET Festival. Above all, it is the professional guarantor of the competition for many years – the Slovak Academy of Scienceswith which AMAVET organizes the Young Hope of Slovak Science event for the second time in November. Young authors will be able to present selected projects from this year’s AMAVET Festival and discuss them with SAV scientists from November 27 to 29, 2024 in the SAV Congress Center at Smolenicki Castle.
The Slovak Science and Technology Week and the AMAVET 2024 Science Festival will be opened by the Minister of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic Tomáš Drucker. The president of the Slovak Academy of Sciences will also be present Pavol Šajgalikgeneral director of the Center for Scientific and Technical Information of the Slovak Republic (CVTI SR) Robert Gálik. CVTI SR is a national agency that supports science, research, development, innovation and education and also works closely with AMAVET, which it entrusted with the opening of TVT 2024. The chairman of the Association of Cities and Towns of Slovakia also promised to participate Jozef Božík. ZMOS members are decisive founders of primary schools in Slovakia, where AMAVET starts looking for talented students, the best of whom continue on to secondary schools and eventually find themselves at the AMAVET Festival. Last year, ZMOS and AMAVET signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to increase the participation of primary school students in AMAVET events.
Event Science and Technology Week in Slovakia 2024 will bring dozens of lectures, festivals, workshops, competitions, podcasts, discussions or exhibitions, as well as various other events. The goal of TVT is to improve the perception of science and technology, their importance and to popularize them within the entire society. The events realized within the framework of TVT are intended for the lay and professional public, as well as for primary and secondary school students, whose participation in individual activities enables them to arouse their interest in the study of scientific and technical disciplines.
The central motto of the 21st year of TVT is “Innovation for a healthier future”. It will mainly be about alternative energy sources, saving energy resources, intelligent systems, recycling, as well as other technologies that will help the inhabitants to live healthier and protect the planet.
For example, for playful types of children, CVTI SR has also prepared a SCIENCE day during TVT, which will take place in the AURELIUM Science Experience Center on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The solemn and dignified culmination of TVT will be the awarding of personalities of science and technology and popularizers of science and technology “Award for Science and Technology 2024”, which will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024. It will also be broadcast by STVR on Dvojka on November 23. November at 8:10 p.m.
The Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic will also award the highest award in the field of science and technology in 2024, namely the Prize for Science and Technology. The aim of awarding this important award is to support the development of science and technology and thus to recognize extraordinary results in the given field. The awards for science and technology, which replaced the Awards of the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic, which had been awarded until now, were awarded for the first time in 2014. This transformation aimed to increase the social prestige of the awards.
