Amazingly capable iPhone 16’s A18 Pro chip, outperformed Apple’s M1 MacBook!

The iPhone 16 unveiling event was characterized by some as boring. It seems that AI may be the only reason to buy an iPhone 16, but here’s something Apple really should have mentioned at its event to turn the situation around. Well, the company had to emphasize the new virtues of the A18 Pro chipset which actually seems to be so good that the iPhone 16 Pro outperforms the M1 MacBook in most benchmarks.

Obviously, comparing it to the previous chip makes the performance gains seem marginal at best. But it’s no small feat how quickly Apple’s iPhone chipset is improving, and in fact the latest chip outperforms even a current and powerful laptop.

Apple silicon changed the game for the company. MacBooks, once derided for their weak Intel processors and lack of hardware, are now truly among the most powerful laptops on the market. The chip’s in-house development also means highly optimized performance when running Apple’s apps, such as the Safari browser.

With an Apple-curated chip, today’s MacBooks have insane battery life, strong performance, and are generally a capable alternative to Windows laptops. The fact that a phone now matches and even exceeds this level of performance is a huge success. Performance gains from Apple’s chipset have helped the company so much that it’s spending billions to try to make and internal modems.

However, AI wasn’t enough to get people excited about the new iPhone. In fact, the iPhone 16 reveal was so sensational that Apple’s stock began to fall when it was announced. But the fact that the base model iPhone 16 still has a 60Hz screen, maybe it’s almost “criminal” in 2024, when even budget Chinese smartphones have at least a 90Hz refresh rate.

Despite all these shortcomings, the iPhone 16 has resonated with the public, so much so that iPhone 16 Pro Max pre-orders have been delayed until October.

It’s clear that the iPhone 16 will easily become one of the best phones worth buying today, despite the EU and China not getting Apple Intelligence.
