Amazon introduced the first Kindle with a color e-ink display. It’s just the beginning – Image and sound – Science and technology

The colors on the display are not very vivid and resemble old newsprint, but that’s just the beginning. Kindle Colorsoft brings the innovation that many have been waiting for.

Amazon has finally heard the pleas of its customers who have been calling for a reader with a color display for years. Not that he hesitated to introduce it, but color e-ink displays are not yet good enough and cheap enough to go into mass production. However, that is changing. Kindle Colorsoft is the first swallow on which Amazon will test whether color displays have the potential to attract new customers. After all, for some, reading e-books is more about the content than the colorful accompanying illustrations.

The Kindle Colorsoft is very similar to the latest version of the Kindle Paperwhite reader, with several minor differences. He changed the hardware, the reader has a color display instead of black and white and more than twice the price. However, it was not easy for her. As Amazon’s product director, Kevin Keith, explained, color e-display technology has not been good enough until now. The breakthrough was brought by the Kaleido technology, which uses a new high-contrast oxide layer and changes the way pixels are illuminated, resulting in higher brightness and brighter colors. Although the resolution of the 7-inch display has not changed, only black and white pages are displayed at the highest resolution of 300 pixels per inch (ppi). For color content, the resolution is reduced by half. The aforementioned hardware has been further improved by a processor that is somewhat more powerful. It wouldn’t matter if it weren’t for faster page loads.

Despite the Kindle’s color display, battery life did not suffer. The reader will continue to last in standby mode for up to eight weeks. The advantage is also that it has the parameters of the Signature edition, which instead of 16 gigabytes offers up to 32 gigabytes of storage for books. For color content, a higher capacity will definitely come in handy. Colorsoft is also waterproof, so you can read books with it without worry even in the bath or by the sea. Most e-books for the Kindle reader already contain color illustrations, so Amazon does not have to “remake” the titles. All purchased books will get a colorful touch in Colorsoft. The new reader can be pre-ordered now for almost 280 dollars. But it will not be delivered to the first customers until October 30.
