Mercedes-Benz receives huge order from Amazon

According to information fromElectrek.cothese trucks will support long distance journeys in the United Kingdom and Germany. This should ensure transportation of trailers between Amazon’s distribution centers, sorting centers and delivery stations. When fully operational, these heavy-duty trucks will carry more than 350 million packages every year. Additionally, Amazon is rolling out charging stations 360 kW at its key sites. These stations will be able to recharge truck batteries from 20 to 80% in about an hour.

To make even longer journeys easier, the company aims to collaborate with other players to install external charging stations. THE Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 is truly the flagship model of the German brand’s electric trucks. It has a battery capacity greater than 600 kWh. This offers a autonomy impressive 500 kilometers. Recently, its production began at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, Germany.

In addition to this massive new fleetAmazon is stepping up its efforts to more sustainable deliveries throughout Europe. In the UK, there are plans to use the electric rail network to transport parcels on a large scale. It is also the time for the deployment of deliveries on foot in London, thanks to trolleys replenished by electric vans.

Sustainable delivery across Europe

In Germany, the Rivian electric van fleet has been doubled. It now exceeds the 600 units. Of the electric cargo bikes are also used more. Last year, they were used to deliver more than 1.5 million parcels in Berlin. Now, Amazon plans to expand its hubs dedicated to foot and cargo bike deliveries to Germany’s five largest cities and beyond. In Europe, the company has invested more than a billion euros to electrify and reduce the carbon footprint of its transport network.

This initiative was welcomed, but unfortunately it was also criticized for its lack of transparency and efficiency. Despite these few controversies, this new order for electric trucks still proves that Amazon provides continuous efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The e-commerce giant also proves that the massive electrification of logistics is an ambitious goal, but ultimately achievable.
