Amazon Prime Video will use AI for its X-Ray feature. While the function first gave viewers information about who is on screen and what music can be heard, it will now summarize entire seasons, among other things.
X-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to provide a short summary of series. Amazon Prime Video can summarize entire seasons, episodes, or even parts of episodes in this way. Useful if, for example, you are starting a new season of a series and you would like to be reminded of what has happened so far.
Amazon Prime Video’s AI models
To enable X-Ray Recaps, Amazon uses its own Bedrock language models. These work in conjunction with a number of custom AI models developed in Amazon SageMaker. This combination of language models analyzes segments, subtitles and dialogue to present an accurate description.
Amazon Prime Video wants to avoid that such descriptions contain major spoilers. To this end, the streaming service has drawn up a number of rules that the AI must adhere to.
Amazon Prime Video begins its rollout
X-Ray Recaps is currently only available in beta, but Amazon Prime Video has already started the rollout. US subscribers with a Fire TV will get the feature first, with other devices to follow later this year.
All Amazon MGM Original Series support the new feature. That includes major titles such as The Boys in Mr. & Mrs. Smith under.
