AMD buys Silo AI

AMD ozná­mi­lo pod­pis de­fi­ni­tiv­ní do­ho­dy o akvi­zi­ci Silo AI, Europe’s largest private artificial intelligence lab, in a transaction that will be valued at approximately $665 million. The agreement represents another significant step in the company’s strategy to deliver comprehensive AI solutions based on open standards and in close partnership with the global AI ecosystem.

The Silo AI team consists of top AI scientists and engineers with extensive experience in developing custom AI models, platforms and solutions for leading enterprises spanning the cloud, embedded and edge computing markets.

Silo AI CEO and Co-Founder Peter Sarlin will continue to lead the Silo AI team as part of AMD’s Artificial Intelligence Group and will report to AMD Senior Vice President Vamsim Boppana. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024.

Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with offices in Europe and North America, Silo AI specializes in end-to-end AI solutions that help customers quickly and easily integrate AI into their products, services and operations. Their work covers a variety of markets and their clients include Allianz, Philips, Rolls-Royce and Unilever. In addition to its model platform SiloGen, Silo AI also creates state-of-the-art open source multilingual LLMs such as Poro and Viking on AMD platforms.

Silo AI is the latest in a series of acquisitions and corporate investments to support AMD’s AI strategy. AMD has invested more than $125 million in dozens of AI companies in the past 12 months, as well as acquiring Mipsology and Nod.​ai, to expand the AMD AI ecosystem, support partners, and advance AMD’s computing platform leadership.
