AMD changes strategy: instead of high-end GPUs, it focuses on increasing market share –

The company wants to address a wider customer base.

Jack Hyunh, head of AMD’s computing and graphics business group, took a recent photo with him interview talked about the fact that their next-generation gaming video cards built around the RDNA 4 architecture will not be aimed at dedicated fans. The manager indicated that the company does not primarily want to compete in the high-end GPU market in the near future.

Instead, AMD is focused on increasing its share on the PC front, paying particular attention to value for money. Currently, the company has only a 12 percent share of the mid-range GPU market for gamers, which it wants to drastically change in the coming period.

Regarding this, Hyunh explained:

“Our primary goal at the moment is to scale up to reach 40-50 percent of the market faster. The question is, do we want to aim for 10 or 80 percent of the TAM (Total Addressable Market – ed.)? I I’m an 80 percent guy, because I don’t want AMD to be the company that only people who can afford Porsches and Ferraris choose. I want to create the best products and offer them at the right prices.”

Regarding high-end GPUs, the head continued:

“My primary goal is to increase AMD’s size and market share. If I tell developers, ‘I’m only aiming for 10 percent market share,’ they’ll say, ‘Good luck, Jack, but we’re going to continue working with Nvidia. Therefore, I have to present to them a plan in which we can achieve a 40 percent market share , then we can also focus on the top category.”

Based on Hyunh’s words, it seems that AMD wants to reach a wider customer base than before, so it can place less emphasis on high-end GPUs aimed at hardcore gamers in the coming years. This does not mean that the company will completely abandon high-end cards, but the focus will certainly be on increasing market share.
