AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU witnessed its first burn incident along with the AM5 motherboard socket, both of which became completely damaged.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the fastest gaming processor currently on the market and is very popular in terms of demand.
Reddit user TrumpPooPoosPants shared a photo showing that the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, which he stated that he was using with the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk motherboard, was burned.
Upon further inspection, D noted that the processor appeared to be burnt, along with several gold contact pins in the AM5 socket. The user also reported receiving the “00” error code reported by another user on the MSI forums, but it is unclear whether the other user is also experiencing the same “burning” issue.
This burn-in on the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. From what we can tell, it appears that the motherboard is responsible for delivering excessive voltage through the gold contact pads, which may have fried the processor.
Some Reddit users note that the pins appear bent and the socket appears slightly damaged on one side, indicating user error.
The main indication that this might be a similar situation was the bulge on the gold contact pads underneath the processor, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. As noted, this is a fairly unique burn and there are no other reports of such problems. Once again, users should ensure that the contact pads and pins on both their motherboard and processor are in perfect condition before installing the processor. Even a slight change in pins or location can cause unwanted damage to your computer hardware.
