The leaked information confirms that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will not have a clock reduction and will have the same boost clock as the version without X3D.
As previously reported, AMD has kept the same clock speed as the non-X3D versions on the upcoming Ryzen 9 9000X3D chips. These processors are iterations of the existing high-end Ryzen 9 9000 chips, but with additional L3 cache achieved through 3D V-Cache technology.
The flagship chip will be the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which will have similar specifications to the non-X3D version, but will be significantly different from its predecessors. Usually, some X3D chips see a reduction in the base clock (mostly the base clock), but the Ryzen 9 9950X3D keeps the same clock speed of 5.7 GHz, as shown in the CPU-Z screenshot. It was exactly 5.65 GHz, and according to the screenshot (via @94G8LA), this is an engineering sample codenamed Granite-Ridge, clearly indicating it’s a Ryzen 9000 chip.
Another thing to note in the CPU-Z window is that the processor will have the same TDP value of 170W as the Ryzen 9950X. As the cache size shows a configuration of 96 + 32 MB, it is clear that this is the X3D version, and through the cores/threads configuration of 16/32 we can confirm that this is indeed the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. This means we won’t see any reductions compared to the 9950X, and this also points to similar productivity with improved gaming capabilities thanks to the extra 64MB of L3 cache.
The chip will have two Core Complex Dies (CCDs), each with eight cores and 32MB of dedicated L3 cache. One of them will have an additional 64 MB L3 cache chiplet under the CCD, which will bring the total amount of L3 cache to 128 MB, or 144 MB together with the L2 cache. Unlike previous generations, placing the L3 cache chiplet below the CCD allows the cores to be in direct contact with the IHS, which allows for a better cooling system. This allows the cores to be clocked while unlocking the potential for further clock optimization.
The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D are expected to be unveiled at CES 2025, along with FSR 4 and RDNA 4 graphics cards such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT.
