AMD’s new Ryzen was burned in two MSI motherboards

The motherboard manufacturer has already responded, but they could only reproduce the error with a poorly placed CPU.

AMD recently launched its Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, which we have already tested, but the Redditing is a Quasarrzone-on customers reported one case in which the said CPU burned out. The two cases have in common that both users used an MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard, so the Tom’s Hardware contacted MSI to see if they are already investigating what happened.

In their response, MSI announced that they are already investigating the matter and highlighted that they were only able to reproduce the burn-in if they intentionally placed the CPU incorrectly in the Socket AM5 socket. The latter can obviously happen by accident, although the design of the encapsulation tries to protect against this to some extent, but this does not guarantee complete safety. Especially considering that the image found on Reddit shows that the edge of the socket is damaged, as if the processor has been sitting too long, thus breaking the support wall near one of its corners.

MSI also added that they are further investigating the possibilities to see if they can reproduce the events even without the CPU being inserted incorrectly.
