American justice wants to ask a court to split up Google

The US Department of Justice is considering submitting a request to a judge to break up Google. Chrome, Android and the Google Play app store are mentioned. An American judge previously ruled that Google has an illegal monopoly.

The ministry speaks (pdf) about ‘structural solutions’ that will reduce Google’s market power. Must be prevented Google Chrome, Play and Android can be used to favor Google Search.

The Department is also considering certain behavioral measures that may eliminate the ability to pay Apple and Mozilla hundreds of millions to tens of billions of dollars annually for positioning as the default search engine in their browsers (Safari and Firefox).

In addition, Google Search must be set up for competitors, for example via an API (software connection).

Google has already responded, saying the proposals are too “radical” and “go much further” than what the lawsuit is about.
