Investing in a new car can turn out to be a waste of money in some cases. So you have to be very careful not to buy a model that has proven to be problematic. An American consultant analyzed the worst new cars in 2024 and why they should be avoided.
Many drivers buy a new car to have more comfort or to benefit from new technologies. Others simply want to get rid of the hassle of going to the mechanic with their old car to fix various problems.
But, the new car may have more problems than the old one.
What are the worst new cars you can buy in 2024
Those at Car Help Corner analyzed which new vehicle models should be avoided.
The worst new cars you can buy in 2024 are:
- Jeep Gladiator;
- Dodge Hornet;
- Honda Prologue;
- Mercedes-Benz EQE;
- BMW X2;
- BMW XM.
The analysis was done on models marketed in North America. But, apart from Dodge Hornet and Honda Prologue, all the others are also sold in Romania.
The inclusion of these models in the list of the worst new cars was made following drive-tests, as well as customer opinion.
Here are the main problems with these models and why you should avoid them.
Why should you avoid these cars?
Those who conducted the analysis say that the Jeep Gladiator is too expensive and not at all reliable. Something always breaks with it, it provides almost no comfort for the driver or passengers and everything gives you the feeling of cheapness. So, it has the worst price-quality-reliability ratio, from the point of view of specialists. In Romania, the Jeep Gladiator has a starting price of over 60,000 euros.
In the case of the Mercedes Benz EQE, an electric SUV designed from scratch by the Germans, the problems are of a different nature. The vehicle is quite stiff and the digital display technology can prove frustrating at times. In addition, say those who tested the car, the interior is not very successful. But, the biggest problem is that the value of the car drops a lot after just one year. In our country, this model has a starting price of almost 90,000 euros.
The main problem with the BMW X2 is the dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is unexpectedly jerky. And in combination with the not-so-refined Start/Stop system and a stiff stance on the road, they make it a not-so-pleasant car. In addition, the infotainment system has no physical controls, the selection is made only through the touchscreen system. Which can prove quite tricky considering the small size of the screens. In our country, the BMW X2 is sold with prices starting from just under 50,000 euros.
It should be noted, however, that the models tested are those configured for the North American market. So there could be quite big differences compared to those sold in Europe.
In the clip below you will find detailed information about all these new cars that we should be wary of.
