The defender of the French national football team and the English Liverpool FC, Ibrahima Konaté, spoke with surprising honesty and maturity about the ongoing war in Gaza.

France took on Israel on Thursday night in the UEFA Nations League on neutral ground in Budapest. At the pre-match press conference, Konaté also addressed the geopolitical situation, as Israel is currently at war with Iran and has been shelling and conducting ground raids into the Gaza Strip for over a year.

“I can’t say it will be a different game because it won’t be. We are preparing to play football, but we are also not ignoring what is happening in the world. It’s terrible what we see on social media. I can’t even describe the horror that is happening there,” said Konaté.

He emphasized that everyone must take what is happening in the world very seriously. “I am most worried about young people. We see adults crying because of the war and I can only imagine what the children must be going through. Eight or ten-year-old children see dead people.’

The 25-year-old stable member of the Liverpool squad stated that he is worried about these generations of young people. He claims that the fight against terrorism is one thing, but the mass slaughter of civilians is another, and it hurts him. Wars are always paid by people who are not responsible for anything and have not caused problems in the world.

“We just want peace. I think I can speak for everyone else. If we can help in any way, even with our behavior, words, kindness, it was worth it for this alone. We are human and only we can remember it. Life is too short to waste it like this,” concluded Ibrahima Konaté.
