We wrote about agricultural producers who decided to breed autochthonous breeds of animals: Cigai sheep, Banat gološijan and Sombor kaporka. And what is the situation when it comes to indigenous breeds of pigs? On this occasion, we contacted Goran Bojović, who breeds Moravian pigs in the village of Brezovica near Čačak.
The Jelica mountain and the Podjelica villages are ideal for growing Moravian grapes
Our interlocutor at the farm currently has 96 heads Moravian pig. As he says, on an area of four hectares of fenced forest, pasture and orchard they live freely all except the pollinated sows who are with their piglets in the pigsty in the stalls. The boxes are modernly equipped with drinking bowls, feeders and rubber deckchairs. The capacity of pigs is 16 boxes – farrowing areas.
Bojović points out that although they do not need such care, he wanted to give them all the conditions for easier monitoring and selection for future selection. genetic resources.
“Four years ago, I started breeding the autochthonous breed of Moravian pigs. From a young age, I remembered that breed of pigs because it was the only race which is grown in our region. The entire Jelica mountain and all the villages in the sub-districts are ideal for breeding this autochthonous pig breed because it is not very demanding for breeding and has a very good nature“, said this agricultural producer.
Moravka has tasty meat that is permeated with white fatty fibers
He points out that it contains meat and fat positive cholesterol. The difference between Moravka and mangosteen is two percent of fatty acid. Moravka has better growth and it has meat permeated with white fatty fibers, which is very tasty. Yield mesa between Moravian and Mangulica is much greater in favor of Moravian.
“Moravian sheep are not demanding to grow and the daily amount of food is much less compared to white pigs, because naturally they are born much less than white pigs and the breeding period is longer compared to white pigs for more than a month. Later, Moravian piglets arrive from piglets of white pigs, which were created to grow on concrete and fed with concentrate for faster growth, while the Moravian piglets arrive they live freely” pointed out our interlocutor.
Austria-Hungary imported Moravians from Serbia
As he says, in the past there were no fences made of barbed wire, but instead they were braids and vines, and it required a lot of work and effort to fence off the space where the Moravians would live freely. With the arrival of white pigs, farmers decided to raise them because it was necessary less space to grow and the increase was greater with concentrated food.
“During the reign of Prince Miloš Obrenović, Serbia saw a rise in the breeding of the Moravian pig breed. Austria-Hungary decided to add mangulica pigs to its own breeds imports from Serbia and the Moravian race. Seeing the huge difference in the better quality of meat, the whole of Serbia was then covered by Miloš traders who visited all the villages and hamlets around the Morava River where they were grown.
It was the herds of pigs that are there lived freely in nature and brought enormous income to the Serbian population at that time,” explains the history of the Moravians, Bojović.
Finally, he points out that Serbia has remained known to this day as a large producer of Moravian pigs many today decide to grow it on their farms.
