It is believed that the bell tower was built in 1813 – 1819 in honor of the victory over Napoleon in the Patriotic War. Previously, there was another bell tower on this site, which was damaged by fire. Suzdal mason Kuzmin supervised the construction.
In 1923, the Deposition of the Robe Monastery was closed, its buildings were used for various purposes. The bell tower escaped destruction and was restored over the years. It is she who appears several times in the film “The Marriage of Balzaminov” with Georgy Vitsin – the picture, as is known, was filmed in Suzdal. A monument to the leading actor was recently unveiled here.
– We often go to Suzdal. Going to a service in the Assumption Church, having lunch in the Trade Rows, going up to the bell tower – it’s always so soulful. We are very glad that you can again look at Suzdal from a bird’s eye view. This view is familiar to us, but every time it opens up as if in a new way,” Vladimir resident Irina Filippova told a Rodina correspondent.
