We take out the archives. The official website of Dragon Ball Z emerges a 35-year-old sketch, which concerns an enemy of Son Goku and Vegeta.
Thanks to the site Dragon Ball Z to highlight Toriyama’s old sketches
Fans pay very close attention to the work carried out by the illustrious and late Akira Toriyama on his two iconic works, which are Dr Slump and (above all) Dragon Ball. Last year, his very first drawing of Son Goku was found in a small shop in Nagoya, in Japan. With the beautiful story told by its owner as a bonus, the real relic currently sits on the wall of this small noodle restaurant, where fans now flock to admire it.
More than 35 years after the creation of Dragon Ball, the archives of (the late) Toriyama are gradually resurfacing. This is notably thanks to the official website of Dragon Ball Z that we can find certain sketches by the Japanese master. The site regularly publishes old drafts of the mangaka for only 24 hours.
The Ginyu Commando in the spotlight on this old sketch
After Cell, this time it is one of the members of the Ginyu Commando who emerges from Toriyama’s old drawers. It is about Jesus, one of the last members of the squad still alive after Goku’s show of force. As a reminder, he is eliminated by Vegeta after a double confrontation (for his part, Goku clashes with the leader of the Commando, Ginyu therefore).
The sketch presented is in reality taken from the work Toriyama Akira The World Special, released on September 19, 1990. First attempts by Akira Toriyama revealed there, like the one on Jeese. It is important to emphasize that the character had a very different silhouette from the final rendering.
IF you are fond of sketches, we advise you to take a look this drawing of Goku with his staffshortly before the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, or even these different forms of Cell, before Toriyama found the right formula.
