XPeng has partnered with Volkswagen in China, to jointly create one of the largest ultra-fast charging networks for electric cars.
This new partnership between XPeng and Volkswagen will give rise to more than 20,000 new charging points for electric cars in China.
A new ultra-fast charging network
The Chinese manufacturer XPeng and Volkswagen Group China have formalized the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding, the aim of which is to establish a strategic collaboration around the networks of ultra-fast charging for electric cars in China. Under the terms of this MoU, XPeng and the Volkswagen Group in China will jointly build one of the largest ultra-fast charging networks of the Middle Kingdom.
As part of this strategic collaboration, Chinese customers of the two manufacturers will have access to more than 20,000 new charging stations operated by the two companies, and distributed in no less than 420 cities in China. This ultra-fast charging network will be accessible by customers of XPeng as well as Volkswagen Group brands in China. In 2023, VW and XPeng came together to develop electric vehicles together: a deal worth 640 million euros which allowed Volkswagen to acquire 5% of XPeng’s shares, as well as a seat on the board of administration of the latter.
XPeng and Volkswagen: state-of-the-art charging stations
The charging stations will carry the colors of XPeng and Volkswagen, and will take advantage of technological advantages in terms of ultra-fast liquid-cooled charging and high power, as well as the complementary presence of the two manufacturers in China. Customers of both firms will have the opportunity to enjoy a next-generation fast charging experience across the country.
This collaboration may also provide other joint opportunities, such as the possibility of building additional ultra-fast charging stations in China, further accelerating the expansion of the fast charging network in the Middle Kingdom, as well as improve the operational efficiency of each party. This new strategic collaboration is the fourth step of the long-term strategic partnership between XPeng and the Volkswagen Group. The two manufacturers also plan to explore new opportunities for strategic collaboration, in order to broaden and strengthen their partnership.
Volkswagen and XPeng also have plans to joint development of two new 100% electric vehicle models.
