Andreas Mogensen receives a medal for science dissemination

Astronaut Andreas Mogensen receives the HC Ørsted Medal in silver on Friday for his excellent dissemination of natural science.

This is written by the Society for the Dissemination of Natural Sciences (SNU), which awards the medal, in a press release.

– Andreas Mogensen has a completely unusual communication talent, which has made it possible for him to capture all age groups and get them to follow the experiments he has carried out on his space travels, says Anja C. Andersen, who is president of SNU, in the press release.

The medal comes with a scholarship of DKK 20,000.

Andreas Mogensen is the first Dane to have been in space. He has been on two space trips in 2015 and from August 2023 to March 2024 respectively.

In connection with his space journey, he has done experiments on the International Space Station (ISS).

Among other things, it was about taking pictures of thunderstorms from space.

SNU also awards the medal to Henrik Stiesdal on Friday. He is the founder and technology director of the climate technology company Stiesdal.

According to the press release from SNU, in 2024 Henrik Stiesdal has received what is considered the Nobel Prize in engineering – the Queen Elizabeth Prize.

The Society for the Spread of Natural Science was founded by physicist and chemist HC Ørsted in 1824. He is particularly known for his discovery of electromagnetism.

Today, the company functions as a forum where researchers can discuss the latest knowledge across disciplinary boundaries.

The medals will be awarded on Friday afternoon at an event at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
