On Saturday, November 23, the founding congress of the new party “Sarauj, Latgale!” was held in Daugavpils. 272 delegates took part in the event.
At the congress, the party program was approved, the board of “Sarauj, Latgale!” was elected. and its chairman, who became the mayor of Daugavpils Andrey Elksnins. Andris Morozov and Anna Naryshkina also joined the board. In turn, the party’s Duma included Livia Yankovskaya, Valery Kononov, Igor Prelatov, Natalya Kozhanova, Anatoly Grzhibovsky, Denis Sarafanyuk, Victoria Sporane-Khudoyana and Dmitry Valainis. Livia Jankowska was unanimously elected Chairman.
As follows from the program of the new party, “Sarauj, Latgale!” is a social-conservative party of the Latgale region, the purpose of which is to protect the interests of Latgale and its inhabitants. “The main goals of the party are to improve the quality of life of the residents of Latgale, promote the economic development of the region, including promoting entrepreneurial activity, creating new jobs, as well as preserving the cultural heritage and unique identity of the region. The party undertakes to ensure transparency of governance, strengthen regional self-governments, promote active dialogue with the government and self-governments of other regions, and also work on the long-term development of Latgale, taking into account its geographical, economic and cultural characteristics,” the party program says.
