Android Automotive 15 brings a number of key improvements to applications and connectivity
With each new version of Android, the greatest attention is focused on mobile devices, for which most of the new functions and novelties are also intended. However, other special versions such as Android Automotive OS (AAOS) intended for automobiles. Although Google has yet to make a formal announcement about Android Automotive 15, the company has shared detailed release notes that reveal what changes and new features the update brings.

One of the most obvious innovations is the ability to stream audio to Bluetooth headphones. In previous versions, the Bluetooth stack in Android Automotive only allowed devices connected via Bluetooth to be used as a sound source. Now supports devices that can act as both audio input and output, but not simultaneously. Nevertheless, the novelty is useful, for example, in cases where passengers want to listen to something privately without disturbing the driver.
Another visible change is the addition of a dock that will allow users to pin their favorite apps to the bottom edge of the screen. Google also added support to Android Automotive 15 for “ambient view”, where the main infotainment screen is on but not in use. It’s similar to Google TV’s ambient mode, which is basically a screen saver that displays the time and current weather. Car manufacturers can customize this screensaver to match their brands and display additional information.

Improved hotspots and radio support
Android Automotive 15 also allows you to maintain hotspots between drives. This feature, called “Wi-Fi hotspot persistence”, is controlled by a switch in the AAOS settings. It will be appreciated by everyone who often turns on the hotspot in their car. Thanks to it, the hotspot remains active even after the car is turned off and on again.
The last major innovation is improved radio support. Google says Android Automotive 15 fully supports HD and DAB standards. This will allow manufacturers to integrate radio functions directly into the environment Android. Other changes in the Android Automotive 15 release notes are mainly related to basic platform changes and are unimportant from the user’s point of view. They only apply to developers and app builders.
