Android 16 will be released earlier than the current Android 15, and after initial speculation, this fact was confirmed directly by Google. More specifically, the arrival of a new version of Android in the second quarter of next year has been confirmed, which is quite broad. Now comes a leak with a specific date when we will see the sixteenth iteration of Android.
Current Android is a flop, to put it mildly
The fact is that Android 15 has given Google more than one wrinkle on its forehead, and updates to it are definitely not going as planned. The new Pixels 9 arrived earlier than in the past, but with Android 14 on board and updates to the new version did not reach Google’s reference phones until mid-October, roughly two months after their premiere.
This is also one of the reasons why Google wants to hurry up with the next version of Android and repair its reputation a little. Recently, the search giant confirmed that Android 16 will indeed arrive early, and now speculation about a specific date is coming to light. Server Android Headlines came with the discovery that the sixteenth version of the popular mobile system will arrive on June 3, 2025.
When will Android 16 be released?
If the date mentioned above is true, we will see the next Android some 2 to 3 months earlier than usual. Also important is the fact that on the same day Android 16 should be made available to manufacturers as part of AOSP and available as an OTA update for compatible Pixels. Which was definitely not the case with the current Android 15.
While individual manufacturers received Android 15 as part of AOSP as early as late September, Google sent the update to its phones some two weeks later. In the past, there hasn’t been a delay between the third-party Android release and the Pixel update, so it’s definitely good news that the next version will arrive so early.
What will the earlier update mean?
The arrival of Android 16 in June will mean, in addition to an earlier update for Pixels, that new phones arriving in July and beyond could already run on it straight out of the box, so to speak. Thanks to the early release, Google should have one more update before the end of the year, and it’s also in its interest to allow phone manufacturers to access new AI features faster, which the early release will allow.
