Android 16 will improve multitasking. The application will be launched in a unique way

  • Google is gearing up to upgrade multitasking in a big way
  • It will allow you to place any application in a floating bubble
  • The feature has been enabled in the latest Android 15 QPR1 beta

Google has been involved in the development of functions that facilitate work with multitasking. In addition to the desktop mode, specialists from Android Authority discovered a new feature that will allow you to run any application in a bubble.

Already with the launch of Android 11 in 2020, Google introduced a new feature called bubbles API, which allows messaging apps to place conversations in a floating window. It sits on top of other apps so you can quickly view or reply to messages. When you’re done chatting, you can minimize the floating window to a small floating icon that you can tap later to restore the window.

The problem with the bubbles API is that it only works for conversation notifications. In theory, most Android apps should work fine even if placed in a bubble. Google is now testing this by developing a feature that will let you put any Android app into a floating bubble. Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority got this feature working in Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2.

Pixel Launcher adds a “bubble” button to the context menu that appears when you press and hold any app on the home screen. Tapping this button will open an app – no matter what – in a floating bubble, as you can see above.

Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 bubble anything

Android’s new “bubble anything” feature will definitely improve multitasking on phones as well. But the biggest impact will be on tablets. That’s because when you combine it with the bubble bar feature that Google is working on for tablets, you get a pretty decent experience. In the video you can see how the new function will look in combination with the appearance of the bubble bar on tablets.

There is no telling when or if this “bubble anything” feature will be launched. Given how dramatically it changes the multitasking experience, you’d expect Google to introduce it as part of Android 16 next year. However, Google recently launched widgets for desktop windows and the lock screen on tablets in what appears to be a small QPR beta, so who knows? Maybe we’ll see it sooner than we think.

Looking forward to running apps in a bubble?
