Microsoft continues to work on the Android and Windows integration and their next move is one of the most interesting on a practical level, in general terms, that they have implemented in a long time: access to the phone’s files in the PC’s explorer… without cables in between. They will do it, needless to say, via “Mobile Link”, the system’s own application for these purposes.
The beauty of the invention, it should be repeated, is that to access Android files it will no longer be necessary to connect the phone to the computer by cable, but rather the connection will be automatic and wireless via the local network connection to which both devices are connected… once “Mobile Link” is configured, it is also worth repeating. It will not be a standard Windows function.
The procedure, for the rest, will be the obvious one: once everything is configured and the connection is made, the Android unit will open as another system directory, accessible from the places panel; will allow bidirectional copying, pasting and editing of files… Nothing new under the sun, except for the implementation, which -that’s another thing- it is not yet known when it will reach the average Windows user.
Right now is being tested among Windows Insider users and it hasn’t even reached everyone yet, as the new feature would be gradually spreading throughout the entire base, but it is understood – as always happens in these cases – that if it succeeds among all beta testers (it is also necessary to have the beta app installed on Android, “Link to Windows”), its implementation in the stable version will be fast.
In short, Microsoft continues to work on the full integration of Android phones into Windows 11 and is not doing badly, although in this case it is a very practical function for the vast majority of users, since file management is one of the most common tasks that can be performed and although it does not cost much to connect a cable…
But it is not the only one. In fact, we have been following this topic for a long time and the news has been increasing more intensely lately… At least, since “Your Phone” was renamed “Mobile Link” after the launch of Windows 11.
