Android Comes to Windows 11 File Explorer

After having told you, a few weeks ago, about the improvements that Microsoft is making to Phone Link, we now discover that the Redmond giant is testing a new feature that allows users to access your Android phone directly dal File Explorer for Windows 11.

This new feature is currently available to Windows Insider users, allowing them to wirelessly explore the folders and files on their Android device.

Microsoft is increasingly trying to simplify the connection between Windows and Android

File Explorer integration makes the Android phone appear as a regular USB device in the left sidebar. Users can then copy, move, rename or delete files between PC and Android smartphone faster than the existing Phone Link app.

Microsoft has made a post that explains in detail all the steps to be taken to enable this function, but to summarize everything, the following are necessary:

  • A device with Android 11 or later
  • Signing up for the Windows Insider Program
  • The beta version of the Link to Windows app

The functionality is in progress testing on all four Windows Insider channelsincluding the Release Preview, suggesting that it could soon be available to all Windows 11 users.

Per enable this feature In File Explorer, users must:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Mobile Devices
  2. Select the “Manage Devices” section
  3. Allow PC to connect to Android phone
  4. Enable the option to access in File Explorer

This new integration promises to significantly simplify file management between Windows and Android devices, offering a smoother and more intuitive user experience.
