There are never enough security features, because the nefarious elements never sleep and are constantly trying to do all kinds of fraud. Staying safe in the online sphere nowadays is no easy feat, and one is glad for every extra helper who supports him. New security features are now heading to Android phones.

Google as the main security beacon

Google is behind and about new security features for Android phones informed through your blog. These new technologies are betting big on artificial intelligence and are essentially real-time hazard detection. The new security layers are aimed at detecting malware, but also unsolicited calls.

Both news items look very interesting, although spam detection is currently only available in English and is in beta. This innovation is called Scam Detection and works by recording the ongoing call and using AI to analyze the behavior of the counterparty. If it evaluates the call as a possible fraud, it will warn the caller soundly and in the form of a notification.

A feature that will come in handy

The truth is that really elaborate, fake phone calls to steal data or funds have been skyrocketing lately, and having an extra layer of security to alert users to this is definitely welcome. Recorded call data is of course not stored anywhere and no one can access this information in retrospect.

It is not difficult to be fooled by a fake phone call, because cyber attackers are becoming more and more sophisticated and it is not a problem for them to perfectly mimic, for example, a bank call. In general, it is necessary to be constantly alert and not confirm anything during the phone call, especially not access to banking and the like. If you are not sure, hang up and check everything with your bank.

Protection against malware

Another new feature in Android is a new feature against possible malware, within the Play Protect function of the Google Play application store. Again, this is real-time detection, and the feature makes heavy use of artificial intelligence. It monitors and evaluates, for example, the sensitive permissions of applications and, on this impulse, can detect an impending danger, which it warns the user about with a notification.

Initially, the feature will focus on detecting threats known as “stalkerware”, which are codes that can collect sensitive, personal information and data about a user. In the near future, the function will be extended to recognize other types of malicious applications. All protection is done through the Private Compute Core, which allows Google to protect users without collecting data.

When will these news be available?

Dangerous app detection is already available for Google’s Pixel phones, specifically the sixth generation and later. In the following months, it will also be extended to devices from other manufacturers. Spam and Scam Call Detection is currently in beta testing, currently only in the US. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear when this additional security layer will be operational.
