Android users smarten up. Another batch of apps infected with a dangerous Trojan horse has been discovered in the official Google Play app store. More specifically, 11 malicious applications were detected that serve as distributors of dangerous code capable of stealing sensitive user data. If you have any of these apps, get rid of them asap.

Another batch of dangerous apps in Google Play

Even though the Google Play app store has a fairly good security, every now and then some dangerous app penetrates its network. Eleven infected programs have now been detected, and the website reported on this fact Dr. Web focusing on cyber security. The dangerous Trojan horse “Android.FakeApp.1669” is found in these apps.

Applications disguise themselves as useful helpers in the field of finance or planning, but also as a cookbook, for example. In fact, they contain hidden code that redirects users to unwanted pages and can steal their personal data. Infected apps show a total of over 2 million downloads, so quite a lot of users are at risk.

“Android.FakeApp.1669” introduces itself

These apps contain the “Android.FakeApp.1669” Trojan, which belongs to the infamous “Android.FakeApp” malware family. It appeared for the first time in 2018, when it was registered in a fake Uber service application, and a few months later, this trojan targeted Facebook users. Since then, these miscreants have appeared on the air from time to time, like now.

Delete these apps:

  • Memogen: 100,000+ (deleted)

  • WordCount: 100,000+ downloads (still available on Google Play)
  • Goal Achievement Planner: 100,000+ downloads (still available on Google Play)
  • DualText Compare: 100,000+ downloads (still available on Google Play)
  • Travel Memo: 100,000+ downloads (deleted)
  • DessertDreams Recipes: 50,000+ downloads (still available on Google Play)
  • Score Time: 10,000+ downloads (deleted)

Over 2 million potential victims

Out of the 11 dangerous apps mentioned above, 8 of them are still in Google Play and as you can see, they have more than two million downloads together. If you have any of them, don’t hesitate for a second to delete it and factory reset your phone to be safe.
