  • Andy Murray will coach Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open in 2025.
  • The two will also work together in the offseason.
  • This will be Murray’s first coaching role since retiring from playing.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, retired from tennis in August after a 19-year career. The former world number 1 said he is “looking forward to being on the same side of the net as Novak,” according to the BBC. The unusual pair will work together in the off-season and in preparation for the Australian Open, which takes place between January 12-26.

Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, won the Australian Open 10 times and defeated Murray in four finals in Melbourne. Throughout their careers, Murray and Djokovic have had a good relationship despite their on-court rivalry.

“He never liked retirement anyway. We’ve faced each other since we were boys, 25 years of being rivals, pushing each other beyond our limits. We had some of the most epic battles in our sport. I thought our story would end, it seems it has a final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner,” Djokovic wrote on the X platform, adding that he’s “looking forward to having Murray by my side.”
