Anna Liepina joined the expanded squad of the Latvian women’s basketball team to participate in the qualifying matches of the European Championship

The Latvian women’s national team begins preparations for the important EuroBasket qualifying games, which will be held in November in Riga. Among the candidates for participation in the national team is 17-year-old center Anna Liepina, a graduate of the Daugavpils Sports School, currently defending the colors of “TTT Riga”. The young basketball player earned a place in the expanded squad thanks to outstanding performances in youth teams and a successful debut in the FIBA ​​Cup.

The team faces two important matches: on November 7, the Latvian national team will play against the Irish national team (the match starts at 19.40), and on November 10 at 18.10 they will have a difficult match against one of the strongest teams in Europe – France. Both matches will take place at the Rimi Olympic Center in Riga. Tickets for the games are now on sale.

Anna Liepina demonstrated a high level of play last summer as part of the youth teams and attracted the attention of the coaches of the adult team. For her, being called up to the national team is an important opportunity to gain international experience at the highest level and cement her place among the leading players in Latvia.

The head coach of the national team, Martins Gulbis, announced a list of 15 basketball players, among whom Liepina is one of the youngest participants. Her inclusion in the team confirms the great potential of the young center. With a height of 190 cm, Anna impresses with her play under the basket and effective actions both in defense and in attack, which is highly valued in the team.

The task of the Latvian national team is to successfully qualify and reach the final stage of the European Championship, which will be held in 2025. Experienced players, together with young talents such as Liepina, are ready to fight for leadership positions on the European stage.
